As of 1 March 2023 the Prostate Specific Antigen test (PSA TEST) shall not be permitted to be performed in Iceland or any place subject to its jurisdiction. The PSA Test has been repeatedly proven to cause more harm to public health than good through numerous international studies. The Althing finds and decrees that this is unacceptable and that good cause exists for the nation of Iceland, as of 1 March 2023, to prohibit the use of the PSA Test for all purposes. All instruments previously utilized to carry out the implementation of the PSA Test shall hereby be destroyed and the importation of any test to make use of a PSA test or any of the instruments used therein shall hereby deemed illegal. Violations of this Act shall result in the revocation of the license of the medical provider utilizing the PSA test and subject those who violate this Act subject to both civil and criminal penalties.

He lost valuable time. He had radiation and now his PSA is back up to 22. They think the delay in treatment caused the cancer to spread. We believed all the hype too and it almost cost him his life. His kidneys were failing because the cancer had blocked his bladder, he had to have emergency surgery to put in a super pubic catheter. Please find a good urologist before it's too late.

PSA is not a marker for prostate cancer. It can lead to over diagnosis. False treatment. Harm. The Urology Dept. needs a better tool than PSA. It was FDA approved in '86 you would think by now they would have a better tool, but no. PSA produces a lot of revenue for the Urology Dept. by the billions and they know that, but they do not tell you that. The PSA is their golden goose that lays the golden eggs (billions) for them. Money talks.

It is my choice as to what tests that I will endure. I think random saturation biopsies are Brutal at best and a terrible thing to have to go through. I hope this kind of technology takes off as the new standard, we will all be better off.

Patients sometimes ask me why their scans have to be repeated. The modern methodology, for monitoring prostate cancer, historically, was putting needles into the prostate on a regular basis. We didn’t have scans that were accurate enough to monitor people. But now, with new imaging techniques such as 3T multiparametric MRI, we can actually see the small cancers within the gland. That of course can be monitored over time. These scans not only have the ability to see the cancers, but they can determine if there is a change or if they are growing over time. How much they are growing and over what period of time do they grow. This is the new basis for our determination, is to whether someone has a cancer that safe enough to continue to be watched, or rather something that is growing too quickly, and needs some sort of definitive treatment. Different situations arise when people consider prostate scanning on a sequential basis. For example, the typical scenario, if someone has a favorable scan, and wants to keep track of what’s going on, would be to get a check up on an annual basis. There are situations that arise however, where small abnormalities are seen may be ambiguous, we’re not quite sure, if they are actionable spots or we should be worried about them. In that scenario, we will consider repeating the scan again, after only six months. We also consider other alternative forms of imaging such as color Doppler ultrasound in addition to 3T multiparametric MRI imaging, to try and determine if a small abnormality looks like it could be worrisome or not.

It does put a huge burden onto the pt. who must first: understand where his " cancer" is on the spectrum from AS to GS 8-9. He must also guard against being nudged or pushed into an aggressive approach because his clinician insists on being "safe". Patient education involves hard work on the pt's part. It's so much easier to only hear the "cancer" word in the diagnosis of "low grade cancer" that this alone will push a man into a treatment with consequent morbidity and alteration of his life style.
